Montrose is a special community, rich in cultural activities, western heritage, and breathtaking scenery. Home of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Montrose boasts some unusual geographic sights, spectacular hiking trails, Native American history, a water sports park, fly fishing, mountain bike trails, 3 golf courses, several wineries, the largest community Rec center on the Western Slope, a wide variety of restaurants, charming downtown shopping, big box stores, and pro rodeo on Labor Day weekend. Our airport, newly enlarged and upgraded, currently has the most direct flights of any small airport in the country. Our hospital, boasting the latest technologies, has been rated one of the top rural hospitals in the country.

The paved River Trail—perfect for walking, biking, or taking your dog for a stroll—connects the North end of town from the Colorado Outdoors residential and commercial district to the South end of town at the Ute Indian Museum and shopping districts, with a section that extends East to the Rec Center.  More and more bike paths are being constructed to make the town more bike friendly.

The Montrose Pavilion often hosts concerts and events from big names to local productions and several other music and gallery venues—both regional and local— offer a variety of entertainment and art to suit every taste.

Montrose is conveniently located to the best recreation in the acclaimed Four Corners Region: Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico. Each is home to national parks and monuments and offers a rich diversity of cultural and recreational activities.

There is plenty to do, right here in town. Our valley weather is ideal all year long (never to hot or too cold). If you’re looking for to expand your adventure horizons, you’re an hour from Telluride and world class skiing, 3 minutes to Ridgway, regional artistic hub, 40 minutes from Ouray and their world class Ice Climbing, 2 hours to Moab and world class Mountain Biking, and just 1 hour from the North Fork Valley noted for winteries, organic farming, and art galleries.
